Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Celestarray when you use the site, book a session or host a telescope.
Draft for legal review. This is a starting point written for a lawyer to adapt; it is not legal advice. Last updated November 2026.
1. Who we are
Celestarray ("we", "us") operates a marketplace that connects people who want to use telescopes ("customers") with the observatories, clubs, schools and individuals that operate them ("hosts"). Celestarray is based in Ontario, Canada. [Legal business name and address to be added.]
2. Accounts
You need an account to book or host. You're responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your email secure. You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to book.
3. Bookings
A booking is an agreement between the customer and the host for time on the host's telescope. Celestarray provides the platform, takes payment on the host's behalf and pays the host out. Hosts operate their equipment and decide whether to accept each booking. Our Booking & cancellation policy forms part of these terms.
4. Payments and fees
Prices are set by hosts and shown in Canadian dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe. Celestarray retains a service fee of 20% of each booking; the remainder is paid to the host. Refunds follow the Booking & cancellation policy. Applicable taxes are [to be confirmed with an accountant].
5. Hosts
Hosts must own or be authorized to operate the telescopes they list, describe their equipment accurately, operate it safely (including solar filtering), hold any insurance they need, and comply with local laws. Hosts receive payouts through Stripe Connect and agree to Stripe's terms.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the service: no attempts to access other users' data, interfere with telescopes or the site, or use the service for anything unlawful. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.
7. Images and content
Customers own the images captured in their sessions. Hosts own the photos and descriptions they upload and give us permission to display them on the site. Third-party imagery on the site (for example NASA and ESA) is credited and used under its own terms.
8. Weather, availability and results
Astronomy depends on weather, sky conditions and equipment. We don't guarantee any particular image quality or result. Cancellations for weather or faults are refunded as described in the Booking & cancellation policy.
9. Liability
[Limitation of liability, disclaimers and indemnities to be drafted by a lawyer, including equipment damage, solar observing and service interruptions.]
10. Changes and contact
We may update these terms and will post the new version here. Questions: contact us. These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
